Big Thank You to Josh Ong and Focus Physio

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

A huge thank you to Josh Ong from Focus Physio who helped us through a mobility prep session every Friday evening during the Open. It is amazing to have his support of the gym and it is very much appreciated. Josh is a fantastic physiotherapist and if you need any help we recommend going to him for a session or just some advice.

You have done extremely well with your practice and we are looking forward to keep the relationship going. We have more exciting things in the works with Josh and Focus Physio as well so keep your eyes peeled. It is all about keeping you guys healthy and moving better.

Electricians at the gym

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

There will be electricians in the gym all day which could make for some small disruptions but should be ok. We will do our best to be organized for each class so just come in and we will make sure you get a good workout no matter what:)

It will be great to get the shower and bathroom lights sorted so we are sure we can tolerate a day of disruptions.

Where have you been?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Every gym has people leaving for one reason or another. We work hard to keep every person who step through our doors but reality is life happens and people move on. We help everyone to the best of our ability but some of you fall through the cracks at one point or another and this post is for you few.

If you have been wanting to get back into training but haven’t taken that next step yet. We would like to offer our help in getting you back to a healthier life. You don’t need to be thrown back into the deep end. Get hold of us and come in for a chat or a coffee on us and lets find out what it is you would like to achieve before you start training again.

Sometimes it is just about telling someone about your goal. Saying it out loud is a great first step in committing to it.

Meet Eldon Donaldson

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Eldon has been a regular member of our morning classes for the past couple of months and he has been improving steadily over that time. Dan, another member and owner of Ward St Depot recommended Eldon give CrossFit a go and it worked out great.

Eldon is 32 yo and owner/operator of Carey’s Bay Marine Services. He is married to Sarah and they have an 18 month old son Snow. Eldon is a diesel mechanic by trade before starting his own business.

He spent most of his childhood in Whangarei but has lived in many places in NZ. His main goal for starting CrossFit was to get fitter so he was able to do more work from day to day and since starting Eldon has felt heaps better especially through the afternoons.

Eldon said “The best thing about CrossFit is the coaching you get at every session, and the extra push you get from training in a group of great people”.

Good Luck in CHCH Joe

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Joe will be leaving us at the end of this month. He is moving to CHCH where he will continue to work in the fitness industry as a trainer at flex fitness. He has been an amazing help here at Southern Peak CrossFit. He started as a member before becoming a coach here so he already knew a lot about us beforehand. From the day he started working here he has fitted right in. Always happy to help members after classes. I have often seen him stay late and help someone out with a skill or lift etc. He was always happy to lend a hand even outside of coaching hours like painting the inside of the gym, doing maintenance on equipment etc.

I first met Joe way back in 2015 at CrossFit North D where he was shadowing me for his PT course. I think that was one of his first CrossFit experiences. Fast forward a year to 2016 where he became a member at SPC when we were in Vogel st. He got right into CrossFit and he was improving heaps. In early 2017 I was looking for another coach and he was keen to take up the challenge. We threw him in the deep end as he had only been working with us a couple of weeks before I left to go overseas and Joe and Marcus had to run the place for the following 6 weeks:) and it worked out fantastic.

Even though it is sad to lose a coach it never outweighs the joy of seeing them move on to further their career whether it is starting their own gym or continue to grow their coaching skills somewhere else. I hope you have learnt a lot in your time at SPC and will continue to learn and grow as a trainer.

On a personal note I’m happy you are taking this step towards something different and I wish you all the luck in growing your PT business. Make sure you come in for a visit when you drive through town mate.

Try our Mid-Morning Classes

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We have seen a little drop off in our mid morning classes 7am and 9.15am. If you are starting later in the morning or if you are free during the morning this would be a great alternative as going early will free up you afternoon for family, study or other things that needs to be done. Try it out. You can even bring a friend with you for them to try CrossFit out. Since the classes are smaller than peak time it will be a nicer introduction to our training too. Just message us about what class suits, turn up and give it a go
