Transition Week

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

We are deloading this week before our last training phase. This is a great opportunity to take a bit of a break from training. You don’t have to take the whole week off but cut a session or two from your daily routine. Spend more time on stretching, go get a massage or other body work done and just get out of the gym. This will help you get ready for the last big training cycle of the year.

We are heading into two weeks of a lot of testing to see how your strength and fitness is tracking so this is a perfect time to get some more recovery done. Everything we are testing now will be revisited in mid January to start 2019 with a bang.

As this training cycle is a long one we have put an extra deload week in, to keep everyone on top of their progress leading into december. Take this week to prepare for the following two weeks of testing and hit all those sessions hard to get the best result possible.

Team Nationals: Part Two

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

This was the first year we brought an RX Team to Nationals. Just like the Intermediate team, these guys and girls had worked really hard beforehand to be as ready as possible. The few elements we knew were going to be tough came up in the events and everyone had to dig deep to get a good score. As all the videos showed they fought for every point. Everyone had some awesome moments and it was great to watch it unfold. With a 19th overall the team didn’t finish up where they wanted and with one of our strongest performances in an event that ended up being scratched due to admin mistakes didn’t help either. Unfortunately that is just competition. Still, with the level of the competition and the events, this team did an amazing job staying switched on and gave it everything.

Final thoughts on the comp and SPCs future in the team comp. There is a lot of work ahead. Providing the format stays the same we are planning on taking 3 teams next year (one for each division). This will require some early planning and some commitment from athletes early next year. If you want to compete you will need to let us know asap and start turning up to Saturday team trainings starting up again Saturday 3/11.  If you are going away over summer keep training and we will provide you with a training plan to work on weaknesses specifically to competitive CrossFit.

Looking at the level of the Events: RX athletes will have to do extra work + classes. Intermediate athletes will only have to do a little bit of extra work outside of classes and Scaled athletes will just need to stick to doing the SPC Wod. But all athletes will have to turn up to as many Saturday team trainings as possible throughout the year to work on coordinated team work I.E Synchronized reps, transitions etc. It will be a super exciting year ahead and I am personally super excited to be extending our programming out to a broader market.

Team Nationals, Part One

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Have decided to split the recap of Nationals into 2 Parts as that will make for easier reading in shorter blog posts and without cutting too many good bits out. First impressions are the level of competition were a lot higher this year. Heaps of good younger CrossFitters are coming through now which is awesome to see. The Events were really well thought out and very spectator friendly. They were a lot harder than last year but that was only to be expected. One thing is for sure, the winners had to be well rounded athletes because the competition had everything in it. Even if the main endurance event got scratched due to admin failures.

This first part is about our Intermediate Team: The gym wanted to send as many of last years competitors as possible so they were asked first and the ones who were able to go put their hand up. We ended up with a strong and cohesive team and they did an awesome job. One thing that stood out was their teamwork. They really worked well together and they all went above and beyond for their teammates. They finished up in 41st which is far from what the goal was, but everything considered they worked their arses off in every event and that is all you can ask for. You can see the videos on Facebook of all the highlights from the comp. Everything that happened in them, I could mention on here. Im sure all the Intermediate team members will tell you all about the intern jokes that were created and all the PR’s they achieved. Well done to Connie, Mark, Jack, Rach, Shez & Megan you did and amazing job.

Perfect time for a small break

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Our time table will run as normal over Labour Weekend so your day doesn’t have to change much but we do recommend having a sleep-in or just a day off if possible. Small breaks from training can give so much in the form of recovery to prevent burnout, but also excitement about coming back to training. Small breaks during the year are important. The body only gets better when you allow it to recover between training sessions. Make sure you plan breaks throughout the year.

Exercise during exam time

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

As you students are heading into exams it will obviously be important to prepare for them by studying but another way of making sure you stay on top of things is clearing your head a few times per week by going for a walk or run. Another thing would be to come down and do a CrossFit session, hang out with your friends and get some training done at the same time. Taking a break by doing a workout and then coming back to your notes and assignments and looking at things with a fresh set of eyes always helps. You always find a few inconsistencies or mistakes after you go away and come back. Especially if you have been studying for a long period of time.

Good Luck to all our student members with your exams.

Measurable Fitness

We posted a picture of our testing sessions to prep for the last training cycle of the year. This will be a great opportunity for you to see how far you have come with your training over this past year but also get a clear idea of what you need to work on. It doesn’t matter if you want to compete in CrossFit or if you just want to come down and workout for an hour every day to feel good. We are sure you still want to know you are getting fitter and a few tests will show you that.

If you are away over summer feel free to keep following the program. We will also post a few outdoor sessions for you to follow if you are going on a holiday and can’t find a gym but more about that closer to the holidays.

If you want to do any competitions next year let us know what comp you want to do, when it is and we will put a training plan together with you.
